A snapshot of my life
 |
I was born into a great, christian family, the last of three children. I have two older brothers, both married with kids. I prayed with my mother to accept Christ into my life at the age of 6 and basically grew up in the church attending Awana and youth group. At the age of 16 I decided that I wanted to see more of the world and went on a missions trip to Argentina. That trip opened my eyes. I realized that there is more than one way to worship God and even if I didn't want to change, I appreciated how much God loves diversity. That experience gave me a curiosity to see more places and experience more cultures. I then visited Mexico, Costa Rica, Iceland, and many European countries through school trips in highschool and college. I earned a degree in resource management with minors in water, international resources, and geography. Following college, I knew I wanted to be overseas, but I didn't know in what capacity. In circumstances that only God can create, I ended up in East Africa with an organization called Mission: Moving Mountains. I spent a year in Nairobi, Kenya teaching missionary kids and helping out their families. It was a great year and I knew that when it was over that God was calling me to long-term missions. It was then that I realized that I wasn't qualified to work in agriculture so I began a 15 month internship at ECHO. Again the Lord led me, this time to Food for the Hungry to work overseas for at least one 3 year term. Through much prayer and lining up my skills with the greatest need, we decided that I would work with a team in Guatemala. In Guatemala, I hope to be able to use the education and experience that God has given me to work with and benefit the Guatemalan people. It is an exciting opportunity and I continue to look forward to where God will lead me.
