Welcome

Welcome to my new website!  I will be using this to keep in touch with all of you and to keep you updated on what God is doing in my life.  As most of you know, I am headed to Guatemala!  I have signed on for a three year term to serve the people of Guatemala through agriculture.  I will be up in the mountains teaching classes and working in the fields.  I am very excited to begin the process of raising the financial and prayer support needed to go to Guatemala.  I hope that you enjoy being a part of the process with me.

ECHO
Me with a baby goat in Haiti

I have recently returned to Wisconsin from Southwest Florida.  I have been in Florida for a little over a year working on a farm called ECHO (Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization).  I was able to learn a lot about tropical agriculture as well as help other missionaries and development workers by growing seeds to send to them around the world.  I hope that the knowledge and experience I have gained in this past year will help me be more of a blessing to the farmers in Guatemala.  Besides learning about agriculture, I also learned a lot about living and working with others as well as dealing with natural disasters.  In Florida, I went through many hurricanes, the worst of which was Charley in 2004.  Guatemala is now dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Stan.  I have no idea what it is like to have entire villages washed away by floods, but I can now understand a little bit better the compassion needed to help them.

Haiti

As part of my internship with ECHO, I spent three months in the central plateau of Haiti.  This was my first experience doing agriculture overseas and I loved it!  We were able to grow many of the crops that the people depend on while trying to find varieties that will produce more or earlier.  We had many failures, but our sorghum seemed to be a success which was very exciting.  Hopefully in the next few years many farmers will be growing different varieties of sorghum and their economy and livlihood will be better off.  It was also fun immersing myself in the culture, making friends, and learning Creole.  Haiti is just another example of God's children praising Him in their own way.  I very much enjoyed Haiti and I'm thankful to each of the people that accepted and loved me.

FH general
Food for the Hungry goes to the hard places, bringing hope to many who face hopeless circumstances. "God calls us particularly to those places of poverty that are hurting and often unstable. Our calling means by definition that we will go to 'rocky terrain,' states FH president Ben Homan. If we wanted smooth paths, we would not venture into places such as Darfur, Sudan, Northern Uganda, Cambodia, Bangladesh – and so many other places."
