Bienvenidos!
Welcome to my website! Thank you for visiting and for your interest in God's work in Nicaragua. Two Years Later... It's difficult to summarize life over the last two years, but I will try. I arrived in May 2006 and immediately settled in Leon to study Spanish and get a handle on the culture in this beautiful country of lakes and volcanoes. A month later I moved back to Managua and found the house that I now share with Andrea Kamouyerou (another FHI staff member) and more recently another missionary from Canada. I spent my first several months visiting communities to see the work being done by FHI and other collaborators of the Nehemiah Center, as well as working on several projects, including improving the Nehemiah Center websites, developing a script for a training video for Christian entrepreneurs, and designing a newsletter for our office. Other special projects I was involved were designing a press conference for our Servant-Leadership campaign, and writing the annual report for the Nehemiah Center. More recently, I have coordinated the 2-week of visit of students from Trinity Christian College and Dordt College who came down for brief academic programs, and will be working with both their newly arranged semester programs here helping with academic reflection and experiences. When I am not deeply involved in conversations with college students about Nicaragua, poverty, development, and Christ's work here, I am creating new content for the FH/Nicaragua website, interviewing community leaders about local transformation, or taking new photos to share with the world. Please email me if you are interested in receiving my monthly newsletter. Or, you can check out my blog at: nicapamela.blogspot.com Why am I here? During my junior year of high school, I began a personal relationship with Christ--a relationship that over time, has changed my heart, my values, my priorities, and even my vocation. One value that has always been close to my heart is serving others. My natural passion for service found many outlets during my college years, and after graduation, I continued to seek out opportunities to make a difference in San Antonio in my professional life in the non-profit and higher education fields. Meanwhile, I also became more and more involved with global missions through my local church, First Presbyterian, particularly in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. I began to realize the depth of God's love for people of every ethnicity and culture, the extent of His concern for the plight of the poor and oppressed in our world, and the importance of my response as a Christian to these realities. My heart especially broke for the people of Latin America, so close to me geographically, yet so far away in terms of opportunity. My short term experiences in Latin America (during which I developed a deep love for the people, and discovered an aptitude for their language) made it increasingly clear to me that I was being called to use my skills and gifts on behalf of the poor overseas. Through God's perfect timing, an opportunity arose for me to spend 3 years in Nicaragua with Food for the Hungry doing just that--and here I am! I hope you enjoy visiting this site and learning more about me, the work of FH in Nicaragua, and opportunities to be a partner with me in ministry to the poor. ~Pamela

The Problem
By the time it takes you to read this message, two people will have died from hunger related causes... 24,000 will have died by the end of today.
The Solution. YOU... walking with Food for the Hungry in ministy to help the world's poorest people.

FH general Food for the Hungry goes to the hard places, bringing hope to many who face hopeless circumstances. "God calls us particularly to those places of poverty that are hurting and often unstable. Our calling means by definition that we will go to 'rocky terrain,' states FH president Ben Homan. If we wanted smooth paths, we would not venture into places such as Darfur, Sudan, Northern Uganda, Cambodia, Bangladesh – and so many other places."

FH's work in Nicaragua
As part of the team in Nicaragua, I will be assisting in a collaborative ministry project known as the Nehemiah Center for Transformational Development in Managua, the capital. The Nehemiah Center exists to train local leaders in biblical principles that will empower them to become positive change agents (economically, socially, and spiritually) in their communities and nation. To learn more about the Center, check out www.nehemiahcenter.net. In my role as the Communications and Promotions Specialist, I will provide assistance in the areas of publication design, development, and translation, website maintenance, and communication with individuals and groups interested in FH’s work in Nicaragua.
